Ugadi or Yugadi 2017 is on Wednesday, 29th March, 2017. The name Ugadi resulting from “Yuga and Aadi” which indicates “Beginning of New age”. Ugadi – it is considered that Master Brahma (Creator of the world) began his perform of development on Chaitra Suddha Padyami. The name of this year Ugadi is "Hevalambi" nama samvatsaram. Ugadi usually in the Chaitra maas (March–April) and Ugadi marks the first day of the new year. According to Hindu Calendar Chaitra Maas is the first month in Panchanga. Ugadi occurs in Chaitra Suddha Padyami every year. Yugadi or Ugadi or "Samvatsradi" is the New Year's Day for the people of the Deccan region of India. It falls on the different day every year because the Hindu calendar is a lunisolar calendar.

Procedure on Ugadi:

On this joyful day individuals awaken in the Early morning and take sacred shower, praise the God, and take unique formula of Ugadi i.e, “Ugadi Pacchadi”. Importance of this Ugadi Pacchadi is, it is a Special mixture of ‘Shadruchulu’ (Six Tastes) i.e., Bitter, Sweet, Sour, Slat, Spice, and Tang. To Prepare Ugadi Pacchadi Tamarind, Neem Flowers, Mango Pieces, Jaggery, Salt and Jeera. It indicates that the lifestyle is a mixture of different tastes encounters which has to be approved similarly. On Ugadi individuals pay attention to listen Panchaga Sravanam, indicates an almanac (calendar) which has the astronomical/astrological everyday information mainly relevant to thidi, Day Nakshatra, Yoga exercises and Karana known as as Pancha-Anga (five elements) that allows the acknowledging various positive/negative minutes of electional zodiac. While the people of Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh use the term Yugadi/Ugadi for this festival, the people of Maharashtra term the same festival, observed on the same day, Gudi Padwa. Sindhis, people from Sindh, celebrate the same day as their New Year day Cheti Chand. Manipuris also celebrate their New Year (Sajibu Cheiraoba) on the same day. It is observed as Baisakhi in Punjab and Puthandu in Tamil Nadu. However, it is not celebrated on the same day as Yugadi in Tamil Nadu because the Tamils follow a solar calendar.

Shivaratri is celebrated on Chaturdasi Tithi during Krishna Paksha of the Magha Masam of according to South Indian (Telugu) Calendar. 14th night of the new moon during the dark half of the month of Phalguna according to North Indian calendar. However both, North Indians and South Indians, celebrate Maha Shivaratri on same day. Maha Shivaratri is on Friday, 24th February in 2017.

Maha Shivaratri is known as birthday of Lord Shiva and devotees worship Lord Shiva in Lingam form. Maha Shivaratri is a night dedicated to worship Lord Shiva. Shivaratri is also spelled as Shivratri, Maha Shivaratri, Shivarathri and Sivaratri. The name Shivaratri means Shiva+Ratri. Shiva is lord Shiva and Ratri is night i.e is enchanting Lord Shiva mantra whole night.

Maha Shivaratri 2017 Date

Procedure on Maha Shivaratri:

On the auspicious day of Maha Shivaratri people woke up early and clean the home and then completes the daily routine activities. people will do head bath and perform the Shiva puja. Abishekam (Milk, Pure water, curd, ghee, honey and sandalwood paste) is performed on this day. On this day of Maha Shivaratri fasting is observed without drinking water until the evening (Surya Astamayam) Sun goes down. After that people will offer the fruits, flowers as Naivedaya to Lord Shiva. Especially on Maha Shivaratri doing puja with "Bilva" leaves is important. Lord Shiva likes Bilva leaves. And offers lighting the light (Dupam and Deepam). Then the devotees eat the fruits and the whole night Should be awake enchanting the name of Lord Shiva. The fast is broken only the next day morning after offering the naivedyam (Rice, leafy vegetable, curd and ghee) to Lord Shiva. Maha Shivaratri fasting observed by both Men and Women.

On this day the mantra should chant on the whole day is

 "Om Namah Shivaya"

On Shivaratri day devotees should take second bath in the evening before doing Shiva Puja or visiting temple. Praying astakam, Stotram will be done. On This day married women praying for the well-being and long life of their husbands. And unmarried women pray for a husband like Him. Men also performs Puja for Lord Shiva for well-being. The people want to take the vrata Monday will be auspicious to start the Shivaratri vratam. Shiva Lingam was first worshiped by Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma. The time of lingodbhavam is at 12 'O' clock On the Maha Shivaratri day. After that Shiva Parvathi Kalyanam is performed in the temples.

Significance of Maha Shivaratri:

Lord Shiva drank deadly poison during churning of the ocean and his throat turned blue. Shivratri celebrates this event by which Shiva saved the world. The devotees strictly perform all the rituals of Maha Shivratri as it is considered to be an auspicious day to worship Lord Shiva, and it is believed that they will be cleared of their past sins. Maha Shivaratri is also spelled as Sivaratri, Shivarathri and Shivratri. Maha Shivaratri is celebrated in temples highly on this whole day and night Puja and abhishekam will be continuously performed. on Maha Shivaratri day the temples will be fully filled up with the devotes to see the special pooja performed on this day.

If anyone wants to start Maha Shivaratri fasting should start on Shivaratri came on Monday will be auspicious and Shivaratri fasting should be continued till the end of life time. Shivaratri fasting shouldn't be broken for any reason. Once its started it should continue till the death.

Maghi Purnima occurs on the full moon day of Magha Maas. Generally it will occurs in January or February. According to the astrology Magh Maas is eleven of lunar calendar and Tenth of solar calendar. Maghi Purnima is on Friday, 10th February in 2017. Magha Purnima is an important day in Hindu calendar. According to the purana's Ashada Maas, Karthika Maas, Magha Maas and Vaishaka Maas are the holy and auspicious month's. All purnima in this maas have great importance and significance. Magha maas is auspicious for marriages.

Procedure on Maghi Purnima :

On this auspicious day of purnima bathing in sea will remove all sins done by the individuals. According to the science by bathing in salt water, water will go into the body through the hair and clean the waste materials inside the body.

Purnima tithi starts at morning Feb 10, 5.05AM to 7.40AM.

As devotees will enchant God mantra's, God stuthi, stotrm, Astotharam on this Maghi Purnima day will be more greatfull for their life. on this day annadanam for poor people, giving sandles, umbrella and clothes to the brahmins is an ritual. Pitru trapanam on this is also ritual on this day.

About Bhishma Ashtami :

The story behind Bhishma is, Shantanava is the king of Bharat Kandh. Bhisma is the son of the King Shantanava and Ganga Devi. Actual name of the Bhishma was Devavratha and another name of him Gangeya beacuse he is son of the Ganga Devi. As he made a promise (Bheeshna Pratigna) to his father that he never marry in his life because of his father second marriage. After the promise Narada Maharshi named him as Bhishma. In favor of Bhisma's promise his father gave boon as Bhisma's death is on his own hands. After the fathers death bhishma decided to do marriage of his brother Vichitra Virya. Bhishma selected the daughters of Kasi Raju they are Amba, Ambika and Ambalika for his brother marriage. But Amba she want to marry other king. So, Bhishma Sent her back to the king. But king rejected her then she came back to Bhisma asked him to marry her. bhishma said as he promised to not marry so he said no. Then Amba went to Parushurama for help but she didn't get. After that Amba prayed for years to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva asked for her wish she asked to get death of bhishma because of her, So he gave her the oath, In next birth she born as Shikandi. Shikandi was born as lady at young age she became man. Bhisma brothers son's were Drutharastra and Pandu Raju. Bhishma is great grand father of the Pandava's sons of the Pandu Raju and Kaurava's sons of the Drutharastra.

Significance of Bhishma Ashtami :

The meaning of vedas, upanishat were explained to Pandava's in the form of stories by Bhishma. In all dharma great dharma is saying the truth. i.e in all sins great sin is saying lies. people should talk to each other speak softly. People who would like to get rid of the putradosh (lack of a child) find this day as the most significant. Performing a Tarpan on this day will eventually consummate the fast kept by people in this regard.
